Superintendent’s Comments/Correspondence

  • New Administrator Introductions: Superintendent Shamieh introduced newly appointed administrators Lynn Benevides, Expanded Learning Opportunities Coordinator; Traci White, Principal, Browns Valley Elementary School; Annaliese Vasquez, Assistant Principal, Browns Valley Elementary School; Tom McHale, Principal, Jepson Middle School; and Charleston Brown, Principal, Will C. Wood High School.
  • Travis Air Force Base Spark Challenge: Superintendent Shamieh shared information on Congressman Garamendi’s visit to Will C. Wood High School to recognize several Wood students who won the recent Travis Air Force Base Spark Challenge.
  • District Custodian Recognition: Superintendent Shamieh and SEIU Vice President Jon Toloumu recognized the work of the District’s custodial staff.
  • Budget Update: Assistant Superintendent Kelly Burks provided information on the Governor’s May Revised budget.

Closed Session Report Out

President Jansen reported that during closed session the Board approved the appointment of Joe Cooney as Assistant Principal, Jepson Middle School. Congratulations Joe!
 

Student/Volunteer Recognitions

  • Vaca Pena Middle School Principal Colleen Moe recognized Vaca Pena’s outstanding student Jayden Marquez-Cook and Music Booster volunteers Alicia Wilson, Cecilia Arzaga and Stacyann Sanders.
  • Special Education Director Aumrey Moland honored the 2021-22 Community Advisory Committee recipients from VUSD, Orchard Elementary Principal Anne Silva and Padan School Psychologist Carmen Malloy-Johnson, for their outstanding accomplishments and service to individuals with special needs.
  • The Board recognized the 2021-22 Student Board Member Representatives for their service to the District: Noah Wong and Quinn Chapin, Buckingham Collegiate Charter Academy; Lilliana Cruz, Kimme Charter Academy; Hannah Johnson, Vacaville High School; Serena Lee and Valerie Price, Will C. Wood High School.

Public Hearing

  • Ernest Kimme Charter Academy Principals Lois Chancellor and Ami Blackstone presented Kimme's 2022-23 recommended LCAP. Action on Kimme's LCAP adoption for 2022-23 will be held under Action Items at the June 16, 2022 Governing Board meeting.
  • Buckingham Collegiate Charter Academy Principal Samantha Working presented Buckingham's 2022-23 recommended LCAP. Action on Buckingham's LCAP adoption for 2022-23 will be held under Action Items at the June 16, 2022 Governing Board meeting.

Staff Reports and Presentations

  • Student Support Systems Update: Associate Superintendent Ed Santopadre and Assistant Superintendent Sasha Begell provided an update on student mental health data, supports, and interventions.
  • Campus Safety Update: Associate Superintendent Ed Santopadre provided information regarding a proposed consulting contract to provide training and support to site administrative safety teams and to develop and implement intervention and mitigation strategies.

Action Items – The Board approved the following items:

  1. Adoption of Resolution No. 34, 2021-22, Resolution Providing for the Issuance and Sale of 2022 General Obligation Refunding Bonds, in an Aggregate Principal Amount Not-to-Exceed $25,000,000 and to Refund Outstanding General Obligations Bonds and Approving Related Documents and Actions.
  2. Approval of Revised 2021-22 Classified Management Salary Schedule.
  3. Approval of Contract with Mobile Modular Management Corporation for the Hemlock/ACE Elementary School Improvement Project.
