Working to keep kids healthy year-round

We asked the community to donate bicycles and we got them - 117 to be exact.  Inmates at California Medical Facility will repair and refurbish these bikes and others so they can be given to kids in the community who need one over the summer.
The bike give-away is the brainchild of Theresa Stout, VUSD's Director of Child Nutrition, who is looking to promote exercise and healthy eating over the summer as part of the department's program that delivers free lunches to selected neighborhoods. The meals, free to anybody under 18, are funded by the National School Lunches Program.
